Interracial Relationships

A question I’m frequently asked is:  Why do you write about interracial relationships? Not that I’ve ever gotten a single complaint, nor do interracial relationships prompt negative reviews. The question seems rooted in simple curiosity, just as my curiosity is ignited by the beautiful contrasts of these relationships. Beyond skin color, there are body-type,  background and cultural contrasts as well, all of which have a subtle impact on the senses.

Portraying characters in interracial relationships tend to make my work more interesting, to me anyway, not to mention the black men who read my books. I’ve gotten some informative points-of-view from the black men (and women) who read my work.  Putting black men and white men together gives me a chance to portray character’s racial perceptions in a positive light, in contrast to what seems so prevalent in the national media, which seems to contrive and feed on racial discord.  I hope to cross many bridges on this subject as time goes on.

What is your take on this subject?  Are you more inclined or less inclined to read a novel about men in an interracial relationship?  Have you ever been in one yourself?  Are you in one now; and if so, does the racial factor have an impact on your relationship one way or another?
